Record Class Graduates St. Anthony's [Video]

An accomplished class of seniors graduated Saturday from the South Huntington parochial school.

Bro. Gary Cregan ticked off the accomplishments of a record-setting senior class at commencement Saturday morning before a crowd of 4,000.

As if the feats weren’t noteworthy enough, the parochial school’s principal did it with gusto, his voice echoing through the rapt Student Center.

This St. Anthony’s senior class produced:

  • An .
  • An qualifier.
  • Twenty-four seniors .
  • An orchestra that toured China.
  • Pipe Band performance at New York City’s St. Patrick’s Day parade.

“You are not simply an excellent high school or an extraordinary class, you have in your scholastic DNA a heritage and linkage which tangibly connects you to ancient thinkers, to our Lord and savior Jesus Christ and to the Roman Catholic Church,” Cregan said. “These links are far more important than any lesson you may have learned or feat you may have accomplished.”

The largest class in school history – 633 strong – blazed its own trail and that spirit permeated commencement, from ripping up his speech to class celebrity making a surprise appearance and offering up a rousing vocal performance to highlight graduation.

The Hofstra-bound Hudson, who and appeared on MSG Varsity’s talent show, showed why this class is so special by belting out “His Eye Is On The Sparrow.”

Caliendo, who is headed to Haverford, told his classmates to not fear failure and to measure success not by fancy cars but by happiness.

“The problem is success and failure are linked to material wealth,” Caliendo said. “The truth is success is not based on the college you attend or the car you drive or the money in your wallet, it’s much more.”

The Class of 2012 took it all in stride, even the morning shower that greeted them as they emerged from the auditorium to march down Wolf Hill Road and into the Student Center.

It was an impressive sight, nearly as remarkable as this class’ accomplishments.

Funny - though you always seem to find the time to cover St Anthony's. I guess now that they haveRead More been eliminated by Chaminade you will find time for us " HUNTINGTON " folks on the HUNTINGTON patch

It's not a matter of choosing not to cover but there have been a number of conflicts with otherRead More events, unfortunately. We're aware of the team's success and will keep trying to cover the game next week. But there are only so many places we can be at one time.

The Blue Devils are in the midst of an amazing run at the championships!! It's a shame that theRead More patch chooses to ignore them. It seems they are only interested in St Anthony's. I, for one, may unsubscribe and urge all my friends in Huntington to do the same.

They do have the metal inside and they are all the same size. If you are seriously interested I willRead More gladly send you some more pictures. As far as the price, the best I can do is a bundle. Maybe 4 for $100 or 2 for $60. They were looked at by a store owner who wanted to purchase and sell in her store for $50 each. They are very cute, very trendy :)

Do they have the metal inside that held the glass bottles? Are they different sizes? It's hard toRead More tell from the pic. I would definitely buy 2 or 3 but, I wouldn't be able to pay 40.00 each. 20-25 each I can do. Thanks, Karen

I would love to become part of the Huntington Chamber of Commerce. However, for a new business itRead More is costly and may not fit into every new business owners budget. May I suggest a provisional 1-year membership at a reduced cost. Once successful the provisional members can give back by supporting other new members.
