Word has it that the budget will no longer be presented line by line. This is said to be enhancing transparency. How could that be? More transparency is needed not less. Our BOE members, if this is in fact a reality should insist on more not less transparency. Anyone agree?

Without a doubt.

You can get lost in the metaphorical "trees" if it's only done on a line-by-line basis. The best way is to examine it on a macro basis, in order to understand the critical issues, and then you can drill down to examine particular areas which together comprise the macro approach. For years Northport had more detailed disclosure than other districts around, and then some of those other districts added greater specific disclosure, somewhat in imitation of Northport. Now Northport could learn from some of those others, with a more comprehensive overview that helps to understand what areas are current or future financial problems.
