New Stimson Principal Named

Edwin Smith is returning to the South Huntington district.

Edwin Smith, a former dean at Stimson Middle School, will take over as principal  in September.

His appointment was announced Tuesday night at the South Huntington school board meeting.

Smith, 34, most recently served as an assistant principal at Merrick Avenue Middle School in the Bellmore-Merrick school district. He also taught social studies in Harborfields.

"I'm so fortunate and excited to be here. It's a great opportunity," a beaming Smith said Tuesday.

He and his wife, Jill, have three children, ages 5, 3 and 1. He attended SUNY-New Paltz, where he played soccer for four years.

Smith succeeds Faye Robins, who is retiring in August.
