Native Dancers Bring Their Cultures to Countrywood

The Thunderbird American Indian Dancers came to Countrywood Primary Center Thursday to provide lessons in American Indian culture, diversity and history.

Louis Mofsie, Allan Star and Marie McKinney Ponce danced and invited four eager pupils onto the stage to try a dance that involved picking up a feather with their teeth.

But it was Ponce's hoop dance that seemed to most wow the kids, as she added one hoop after another without using her hands.

The PTA Cultural Arts Committee worked with Peggy Low of the Huntington Arts Council and its JOURNEY Arts-in-Education program to bring the program to the school.
