Maybe Rain, Rain Goes Away on Saturdays

S. Huntington board votes to move commencement exercises to Saturday.

The scientific evidence may be weak but the memories are strong.

And so the South Huntington school board voted Tuesday night to move next year's commencement ceremony to Saturday morning, citing the rainy weather of graduations held on Friday nights.

Though this year's was dry, rain threatened throughout, and in several previous years, ceremonies had to be moved indoors. That meant fewer people could attend.

Trustees discussed the pros and cons of various days, times and locations for commencement before settling on Saturday morning.

Internet experts disagree, with one saying weekends are less rainy, while another says the opposite. Neither response is likely to pass muster at the Silas Wood STEM Career Academy.
