Huntington School Board Makes Appointments

The Huntington school board members recently approved several instructional appointments.

They include:

Kelli Ann Connors

Kelli Ann Connors has been hired to teach special education at Woodhull Intermediate School. She holds a BA from SUNY Brockport in health/science and a master’s degree from Touro College in elementary/special education.

Connors has worked as a teacher assistant for grades 6-8 in the Sachem Central School District and as a leave replacement self-contained classroom special education teacher in the Greater Amsterdam School District. She has filled various leave replacement and per diem assignments in Huntington since November 2009.

Patricia Colon

Patricia Colon has been hired to work as a guidance counselor at Huntington High School. She earned a BA at Long Island University in teacher education, an MA at Columbia University in elementary curriculum and design and a MS at Long Island University in school counseling.

She worked in Huntington as a fourth and fifth grade teacher from September 1988 to May 1995. She completed a school counselor internship in Huntington during 2011 and 2012.

Mia Holmes

Mia Holmes has been hired to teach reading at Southdown Primary School. She holds a BA in English and a MS in elementary education, both from Hofstra University. She pursued advanced graduate studies in literacy at Adelphi University.

Holmes has worked in Long Beach as a co-teacher for grades 1-3, at the School of Learning in Freeport as a per diem sub and in Rockville Centre as a kindergarten teacher and as an academic intervention services teacher assistant.

Tina Balducci

Tina Balducci has been hired to teach special education at Jefferson Primary School. She obtained a BA at Stony Brook University in psychology and an MS at Hofstra University in special/general education.

Balducci has worked at Building Blocks Development Pre-School in Commack and in Huntington as a first grade special education inclusion aide and as a kindergarten and first grade special education case aide. She has been a per diem and long-term leave replacement teacher in Huntington since December 2010.

Samantha Ahrens

Samantha Ahrens has been hired to teach math at J. Taylor Finley Middle School. She earned a BA at St. Joseph’s College in math education and is studying for a master’s degree at Stony Brook University.

 Ahrens has worked in the South Huntington and Harborfields school districts as a per diem substitute teacher.
