Huntington District to Pay for Finley Audit

Curriculum to get scrutiny for school to leave state list.

The Huntington school district will pay more than $58,000 for an external school curriculum audit at J. Taylor Finley Middle School because the state Education Department has put  on its corrective action list.

The Center for Curriculum Renewal will perform the curriculum audit.

The state Education Department requires such an audit for a school identified in "Corrective Action (Year 1) Focused," according to Dr. Kenneth A. Card, Jr., the assistant superintendent for curriculum and instruction.

Three companies responded to the Huntington School District's "request for proposal" to perform the auditing services. Dr. Card felt the Center for Curriculum Renewal had a good "track record of developing significant and healthy relationships with the districts in which they worked."

Huntington High School joined Finley on  the "needs improvement" list this year.
