High Schools Plan Holiday Concerts

Huntington, Whitman will be alive with music.

As Christmas draws near, and Whitman high schools are busy preparing to fill their auditoriums with the sounds of the holiday.

A large crowd is expected for Huntington High School's concert at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday.

"I encourage our Huntington community members to pause for a moment from their holiday preparations to enjoy a wonderful evening of music performed by our high school orchestra and choir students," said Joan R. Fretz, district director of fine and performing arts.

The concert will include a mix of holiday and classical selections. The string orchestra and symphony orchestra will both perform under the direction of teacher Lisa Leonardi. Teacher Veronica Mainville will direct Huntington's chamber and concert choirs.

The evening's finale will be the "Hallelujah" chorus from Handel's Messiah. All alumni and members of the community are invited to join the students for the finale by either singing or playing.

Whitman's winter concerts will play out over three nights.

Concerts are scheduled for 7:30 p.m. Monday through Wednesday in the Performing Arts Center at the high school.

The orchestra, band and chorus will perform Monday, other bands Tuesday and and other chorus and orchestra on Wednesday. 

Following tradition, alumni and others are invited to participate in the finale, which always brings a crowd of teachers, administrators and others onto the stage to perform with the students.
