Updated: Feds Arrest Eight Gang Members

FBI and SCPD take eight Latin Kings members in to custody on federal charges.

The FBI Long Island Gang Task Force and Suffolk County Police Department Special Operations Team said Thursday it had arrested eight suspected Latin King gang members in Huntington Station and Deer Park on on drug, assault and weapons charges today. Two additional subjects are already being held on state charges.

All eight subjects were taken into custody without incident and were expected to appear in the Eastern District of New York Federal Court later today. In a press release today, County Executive Steve Levy said the gang members arrested were operating out of Huntington Statio and that the arrests "send a strong signal that their actions will not be tolerated in our county."

After three shootings in one month,  including one within a block of the Jack Abrams Intermediate School during the school day March 11, parents were demanding their children be protected.

The FBI's Long Island Gang Task Force, which was formed in 2002, investigates gang related crimes and will continue to work with our partners in Suffolk and Nassau counties to reduce gang violence and criminal activity.

Levy and Police Commissioner Richard Dormer have scheduled a press conference tomorrow where they say they will detail the arrests.
