Facility Fee Hikes Approved by BOE [VIDEO]

School district increases rates to raise revenue.

The Huntington school board voted 6-1 Monday to approve a revised seasonal facility use schedule which includes fee hikes as a means to raise extra revenue.

"Ultimately, this is a potential revenue-generating opportunity for the district." said Superintendent Jim Polansky at  school.

Modified seasonal usage rates for gymnasiums, classrooms, libraries, outdoor playing fields, tennis courts and locker rooms will increase at Huntington High School, Finley Middle School, Jack Abrams Intermediate, Woodhull Intermediate and other primary schools, were approved.

Rates for groups serving the primary benefit of Huntington students will be waived, according to the school board.

The plan is expected to take affect July 1, the first day of the new school year.

"I think it puts us more on the same level as surrounding school districts," said Trustee Jen Hebert. "It's not like we are going to be charging these absorbent, outrages prices."

Trustee Rich McGrath voted against the plan.
