Whitman & Beyond: Fanfares for the Common Man

Commemorate National Poetry Month with George Wallace, Writer-in-Residence at the Walt Whitman Birthplace as he presents a program celebrating how the emerging 18th and19th century notion of the individual, championed by Romantic era writers in England and America, has remained a fundamental literary theme for contemporary writers. Readings are drawn from the writings of such figures as Carl Sandburg, John Steinbeck, Vachel Lindsay, Woody Guthrie, Allen Ginsberg and Jack Kerouac, as well as Toni Morrison, Maya Angelou and Lydia Marie Childs.
