Huntington High School students, their families and area residents are encouraged to eat Japanese at two restaurants in Huntington over the next week to help support earthquake relief efforts in Japan.
From 5 to 9 p.m. Thursday, April 28, Kura Barn Restaurant will donate 10% of the evening's proceeds to the National Honor Society at Huntington High School, which will give the money to the Red Cross for relief efforts in Japan as the country recovers from the devastating 9.0 earthquake on March 11 and the massive tsunami that followed.
If you're busy on Thursday, you can eat Japanese at Kashi on Elm Street, the newest Japanese restaurant in Huntington, from 5 to 9 p.m. on Monday, May 2. Kashi, too, will donate 10% of the evening's proceeds to the honor society for relief efforts.

The severe earthquake and accompanying tidal wave devastated the coastal area of eastern and northeastern Japan, with Japanese police officials saying the March 11 events have left 14,435 people dead and 11,601 others unaccounted.
About 130,000 survivors are staying in 2,300 shelters across the country. Recovery efforts are complicated by the ongoing radiation problems and nuclear plant cleanup efforts at Fukushima.
