Bennardo: New Year, New Opportunities

Written by Dr. David Bennardo, superintendent of South Huntington schools.

Hello All,

I want to take a moment to wish the members of our school community a wonderful new year. I hope 2014 is filled with good health and happiness for our South Huntington learning family. I know that the days and months ahead will bring great accomplishments to our district and look forward to following the special work of our students, faculty, and staff.

This time of year provides a priceless opportunity to reflect upon the success of the year gone by while simultaneously embracing the opportunities and challenges on the horizon.

A look back at 2013 gives great reason for hope as the South Huntington family demonstrated the spirit and resiliency characteristic of our community. We worked together over these past 12 months and experienced a cooperative, productive budget season, while remaining calm and determined through the challenges of Common Core and APPR.

We also weathered numerous "curve balls" from Mother Nature and endured dozens of changes, revisions, and “new ideas” from the New York State Education Department. Although we certainly were not perfect in every endeavor, the teamwork and effort that our learning community displayed throughout the year provides tremendous reason for optimism in 2014.

While there will certainly be bumps in the road as we continue on our journey, the people of South Huntington possess both the talent and work ethic necessary for success. Our ability to honestly communicate, listen to each other, and grow from every experience will produce great things in the months to come. There is nothing like the promise of a new year to generate enthusiasm and build confidence in a school community. We look forward to accomplishing great things together!

Have a very happy new year.
