Leaves of Three- Let It Be: Tips About Poison Ivy

With spending most of your time outside during the summer months it is important to know and identify poison ivy.  Recognizing it can greatly decrease your chances of contact.  Below find information on what the vine looks like along with remedies for healing.


What does it look like?

-    A vine with groups of three pointy leaves (a good saying to remember "leaves of three, let it be").

-    The middle leaf has a little bit of a longer stem than the two leaves on the side.
-    If you see berries, they will be greyish white in color.
-    There are no thorns on the stem.
-    Leaves are green during summer, red-ish during fall. Sometimes young leaves are red, especially when the plant is in full sun.
-    It can grow anywhere.

What are the symptoms of the Poison Ivy Exposure?

•    Itchy skin.
•    Redness where the plant brushed against the skin.
•    Small bumps or larger raised areas & blisters filled with fluid that may ooze.

  •    Baking Soda Baths & Pastes
  •    Organic Cucumber
  •    Oatmeal Paste
  •    Organic Apple Cider Vinegar
  •    Aloe Vera Gel
  •    Jewel Weed (tip usually grows right next to poison ivy)!

When you cannot avoid the plants, wearing protective clothing is recommended, long sleeves, pants and vinyl gloves.
