Lockdown Lifted at U.S. Capitol

The Washington office of U.S. Rep. Steve Israel, D-Huntington, confirmed that it was under lockdown after reports that shots were fired Thursday afternoon at the Capitol. 
The lockdown has lifted, The Washington Post reported at 3:20 p.m., writing that The Senate Sergeant-at-Arms reports that the lockdown at the Capitol has been lifted. Shots were fired outside the Capitol, and at least one Capitol Police officer was injured in the incident, police said.

The Washington Post earlier reported that "The Capitol is on lockdown after shots were fired, police reported. Capitol Police are telling people to take shelter. Officers with semi-automatic weapons were seen running for the exits on the House side."

An aide to Israel told Patch earlier that, "We are in lockdown in our office. Not sure what's going on, but all are safe in our office."
