Town Notebook: Wedding Licenses, Trash Pickup

Typewriters may make a comeback in Huntington office as marriage forms are updated.

Marriage Licenses

Huntington Town Clerk Jo-Ann Raia said her office is working on the changes needed to accommodate same-sex applicants for marriage licenses. The new law takes effect Sunday July 24, and Raia says she expects more than the usual number of license applicants starting July 25.

The process won’t be seamless because the state Department of Health has to issue new forms.

Raia said the process for obtaining licenses might take a little longer than usual because department employees will have to use typewriters for licenses until computer software programs are updated for the new forms for both license and marriage certificates.

All applicants must meet certain requirements to receive a license.   

Raia serves as liaison between the New York State Town Clerks Association and the state Department of Health.

Trash Pickup

Trash pickup is pushed back one day because of the Fourth of July holiday, with no pickup scheduled for Monday. All paper and cardboard recycling will be done on Thursday.

Police Community Meeting

The next community meeting is set for 10 a.m. Thursday at the Second Precinct stationhouse in Huntington.

Deadlines are approaching for several town bids and requests for proposals, including reconstruction of the Woodbine Marina in Northport.

Dix Hills Water Wins

The Dix Hills Water District won the Long Island Water Conference’s annual competition for the second year in a row, defeating the Bethpage district in a “taste-off” at Lido Beach. See

In the Community

Councilman Mark Mayoka helped out at soccer festival to benefit Danny Alini, who has leukemia. The St. Elizabeth's CYO soccer festival at the Half Hollow Hills and Birchwood fields drew teams from as far as Yaphank and Valley Stream.

Councilwomen Susan A. Berland and Glenda A. Jackson helped celebrate the graduating class at the Developmental Disabilities Institute.
