In a procedural error made many years ago, the Town of Huntington installed current no parking signs on Prime Avenue and Lake Place near without formally entering them into the Town Code.
A was held last week regarding a proposed town amendment to formalize the restrictions which apparently have unofficially been in place for decades.
The hearing was one required step in amending the Town Code to include the no standing restrictions, according to AJ Carter, the town information officer.
"When a sign got knocked down and a Prime Avenue resident called about its replacement, the town discovered that the restrictions had not formally been entered," said Carter.
If approved, the proposed restrictions would cover an area larger than what is currently posted on Prime Avenue. Under the plan, no standing zones would run 85 feet on the east (Heckscher Park) side of Prime heading South from Lake; 65 feet on the west side of Prime heading south from Lake, according to Carter.
No changes would take place to restricted areas on Lake Place which run 35 feet on each side of the road heading West from the intersection at Prime.
