Two Huntington Beaches Ordered Closed

Suffolk warns of high bacteria levels at two Huntington area beaches.

Due to elevated bacteria levels after rainfall, two private beaches in the Town of Huntington have been closed.

The Suffolk County Department of Health Services Beach Monitoring Program is prohibiting bathers from entering the water at the Cold Spring Harbor Beach Club and Huntington Beach Community Association in Centerport.

According to the county, beaches are closed when water quality is poor and/or other conditions pose a risk to public health.

The beaches will remain closed until two tidal cycles pass after the last rainfall.

Correction:  was reported as closed by Suffolk County, but not due to elevated bacteria levels.
