Suffolk Planning Board to Convene in Huntington

Panel will hear about town and county matters.

Suffolk's planning commission will meet Wednesday in Huntington as part of an effort to bring the board to communities around the county.

The board will consider an agenda of items from around the county, but Town Supervisor Frank Petrone will update the commission about issues of importance to Huntington.

Also speaking before the commission will be Mitch Pally, who heads the Long Island Builders Institute County planning commission, who will talk about priorities for builders on Long Island.

"This is our first one in Huntington in recent memory," chairman David L. Calone said. "We move our meetings around so commissioners can get a better sense of the towns."

The 15-member commission meets monthly and "gives the county a chance to weigh in on land use decisions that are going through the municipalities," Calone said.

Each of Suffolk's 10 towns has a representative on the commission. Sarah Lansdale, executive director of Sustainable Long Island, represents Huntington. Other members serve at-large or represent Suffolk's villages.

The meeting starts at noon at and includes time set aside for public comment.
