Spencer Named Chairman of County Health Committee

Former Legislator Jon Cooper think's it's a good fit for Huntington.

First-term Suffolk County Legislator has been named chairman of the Health Committee by Presiding Officer Bill Lindsay.

“It will be my responsibility to ensure that the health and well-being of all Suffolk County residents is a priority for the Legislature,” said Spencer, D-Centerport, in a press release.

Spencer, a doctor, said he will lead colleagues in diagnosing pressing issues facing Suffolk residents while prescribing solutions for them as chairman.

Former 18th District Legis. told Patch the appointment by Lindsay makes perfect sense because of Spencer's extensive medical background.

"Because of cutbacks in state funding, our county health centers, including Huntington's Dolan Family Health Center, have been under increasing pressure to maintain adequate funding for their operating budgets," said Cooper. "Legislator Spencer's healthcare expertise will prove invaluable in developing a plan to ensure that our health centers remain viable and continue to provide critically needed services to under-insured and uninsured Huntington residents."
