Repairs to Landing Avenue Bridge Set for Spring

Motorists to be detoured during four-week bridge closure.

Smithtown motorists can expect delays this spring due to repair work slated for the Landing Avenue bridge, according to the Suffolk County Department of Public Works.

The road is expected to close for four weeks, said Bill Hillman, Chief Engineer for the DPW. The entire project, which will include minor deck repair, signing and concrete repair is expected to take two to three months to complete.  A detour is expected to be set up, but the route has yet to be determined.

Hillman said the work will cost $125,000 and bids for the project are expected to go out shortly.

Editor's note- an earlier version of this story said the detour would include St. Johnland Road. The route has note yet been established.

Thanks. Not trying to confuse anyone. The DPW has not set the route yet. We will update you when they do.

Thanks for the feedback. The only other bridge over the Nissequogue is along Route 25, right before the bull statue. So to get anywhere on the west side of the river you'd have to make a left at the bull and head up St. Johnland. We will update you when an official detour route is set.

Actually on Landing Avenue right before the park on the left, there is a bridge that crosses over a stream(the river). Not many people realize that it is the Nissequogue because it's a very shallow and narrow part of the river but it is indeed a part.

Id wager it is safe to say everyone from the area knows the "stream" to be the Nissequogue... My money is that the detour will be through Eckerncamp, over a block on Everitt to Summerset, which empties out onto St Johnland. Been cutting through there for over a decade, it was always quicker than Landing anyway if youre headed westbound on 25.
