McCusker Resigns From Huntington Bay Village Board

Significant health concerns cause longtime trustee to step down.

Village Trustee John McCusker resigned today from the Huntington Bay Village Board due to health reasons.

At a regular Board of Trustees meeting Monday, village Mayor Herb Morrow said he received a call earlier in the day regarding McCusker's decision.

"He has a number of significant health reasons that he needs to attend to," said Morrow at Village Hall.

Elected to his third term in June, McCusker has been a Huntington Bay resident for three decades. The mayor said McCusker's service will be missed.

"John was a tremendous trustee. He gave a lot in terms of his financial background and was also a strong advocate for our police department for all of the years he was on the board," said Morrow.

A replacement for McCusker will be appointed by Morrow at the September village board meeting. The new appointee will serve until June 2012. A replacement for the second year of McCusker's term will be decided by a village vote next June.

"I don't want to leave the board at four people," said Morrow. "I ask people who may be interested in the position to contact me."

McCusker has not been present at a village meeting since his re-election.
