May is 'Pets for Vets' Month

The Huntington Town Board is waiving adoption fees for veterans and active military personnel seeking pets.

May is "Pet for Vets" month. So says the Huntington Town Board, which voted to waive the animal adoption fee for veterans and active military personnel during the month of May 2014.

At its April 8 meeting, the Board voted to waive the $103.50 fee charged for adoption of dogs at the Town of Huntington Animal Shelter at 106 Deposit Road in E. Northport. The League for Animal Protection, which runs the adjacent cat shelter under an agreement with the town, has also agreed to waive its adoption fees for veterans and active military personnel during the month, officials said.

Anyone interested in obtaining the fee waiver must present documentation such as discharge papers or current military identification. More information can be obtained by calling 631-754-8722 or by visiting the shelter, 106 Deposit Road in East Northport.
