LIRR Warns of Morning Delays

Derailment damage could create rush-hour problems.

Commuters can expect more delays and cancellations on the Long Island Rail Road Tuesday morning because of Monday night's derailment in an East River tunnel.

The MTA said Amtrak personnel will be working through the night to assess the damage and make repairs. While the derailment affected a Hempstead-bound train, it was unclear Monday night how much track damage might have occurred.

Eastbound service on all lines, including Port Jefferson, was affected Monday night.

The MTA issued multiple alerts Monday night, including one at 11:41 p.m. that commuters should be prepared for delays.
