LIPA Work Blocks East Main Travel

Traffic was blocked at East Main Street and Cherry Lane Monday afternoon as LIPA emergency crews worked on lines.

The state issued a travel alert at 3:17 p.m.

All westbound traffic was being rerouted south onto Cherry Lane by a Suffolk County Police officer. A few cars headed east made it through the intersection but whether other eastbound traffic was being diverted was not clear.

A LIPA spokeswoman said that a wire had come down and briefly knocked out power but that it had been restored. She said the incident was "not necessarily heat related."
