Huntington Notebook: Town Approves Bus Marketing Contract

Town Board agrees 4-1 to HART marketing contract with Creative Concepts of Long Beach.

A Long Beach company was awarded a five-year contract with the Town of Huntington to provide advertising for the Huntington Area Rapid Transit Buses.

By a 4-1 vote, the Town Board agreed to a deal with Creative Advertising Concepts of Long Beach for the townwide transit advertising marketing program at a regular meeting Tuesday at . 

The contract was approved in consideration for 60 percent of HART's bus advertising revenue generated for the marketing program. less administrative expenses of $4,200 per year by the company, according to Town of Huntington documents.

Town Board member Mark Mayoka opposed the plan.

"I voted no to the vetting process," said Mayoka. "I was looking to the qualifications of the different bidders and it appears that we have a lot of advertising companies in Huntington and we need to be proactive in giving business to local companies."

In other town news, the Town Board unanimously approved the following items:

  • Authorized the sale by pulic auction of Egyptian artifacts in the collection of the Heckscher Museum with the proceeds to be restricted for the acquisition of new collection objects.
  • Authorized the town animal to waive adoption fees through Dec. 31.
  • Accepted a donation of a bench for the Centerport Beach House in memory of Huntington Station Senior Club member Kathy Geiger.
  • Adopted a marina contract for 2012 spring, summer and autumn for marina storage at Town Marinas.
  • Adopted the New York State Model Plan for the employees of the Town of Huntington.
  • Approved the 2012 Public Art Plan and authorized the Public Art Advisory Committee to proceed with its implementation.
  • Approved a two-year licensing agreement with HASA Construction LLC for the temporary use of located at Creek Road and Mill Dam Road (former Naval reserve site) for use as a construction site staging area.
  • Scheduled a public hearing to consider awarding a license agreement to operate a restaurant and snack bar at Crab Meadow Beach in Northport by the owners of the La Casa Cafe, Inc. company.
  • Authorized a licensing agreement with Meals on Wheels of Huntington.
  • Approved a licensing agreement to the Cold Spring harbor Seafarfers, Inc, to operate a marina in Cold Spring Harbor.
