Huntington Budget Discussion Begins

Public hearing set for 6 p.m. at Town Hall Tuesday regarding 2012 fiscal year budget.

The Huntington Town Board has scheduled a public hearing at Town Hall Tuesday regarding the 2012 preliminary annual budget.

The proposed $174 million budget, released last month by Huntington Town Supervisor Frank Petrone, calls for spending cuts for the third straight year, a freeze on employee wages and the possible elimination of 10 vacant town positions.

The fiscal year budget proposes a $10.3 million decrease to the operating budget decrease from last year and an 18 percent increase in capital budget spending to $10.1 million in  a year which some capital projects were deferred and only $6.4 million in serial bonds were issued.
