Greenlawn Teen Beautifies Senior Center

Amanda Cohen creates garden for town's senior beach house in Centerport.

A Greenlawn teen has been recognized for her work on creating a garden at the town's senior beach house.

Huntington Supervisor Frank P. Petrone and Councilwoman Susan A. Berland joined seniors recently to congratulate Amanda Cohen, who earned a Girl Scout Gold Award for creating a new garden at the Town’s Senior Beach House.

As part of her Gold Award project, Amanda, who is 16 and lives in Greenlawn, enlisted the help of her Girl Scout Troop and Service Unit. They set up two new flower beds on the water side of the Beach House, planted perennial flowers and placed “fish rocks” in the garden.

Amanda and her family also purchased four Adirondack chairs.

The garden was dedicated Sept. 16. Petrone said Amanda had created something that could be enjoyed today and by generations to come, and Berland
thanked Amanda’s family for their support on the project.
