Town Board Meets Tonight

Public hearing set regarding change to recreational vehicle use law in parks.

On the agenda tonight at the Town Board meeting, a public hearing is scheduled to consider adopting local Law No. 17-2011 amending the Code of the of Huntington, for penalties for recreational vehicles use in town parks. 

The restrictions would apply to operators of dirtbikes, minibikes, all-terrain vehicles, motorbikes and snowmobiles.

The code change would make illegal recreational vehicle use a misdemeanor, punishable by fines up to $15,000 for repeat offenses. First offenders would be subject to fines between $100 and $500, or 10 days in jail.

Currently, violation of the code is not a misdeamenor, with maximum fines of $1000 or 20 days in jail for repeat offenders.

The meeting begins at 7 p.m.
