Youth Coach Accused of Harassment

Police say Huntington man stalked rival coach after dispute.

A Huntington man who manages a youth baseball team was arrested Friday on charges of harassing another coach he'd gotten into a dispute with.

Suffolk County police said Robert Sanfilippo, 45, of 20 Timber Ridge Dr., stalked a rival coach’s family and sent threatening text messages to the competing coach.

Police gave this account: Sanfilippo, who manages the team Vengeance, a youth baseball squad of 10 and 11 year old boys, got into an altercation with another coach at a tournament in May. He later bought an untraceable phone and in August, sent several text messages with pictures, threatening to harm the victim, his son, and his wife.

Fourth Precinct Crime Section officers determined the phone belonged to Sanfilippo. He was arrested Friday during a game at Baseball Heaven, at 350 County Road 101, in Yaphank, at 5:15 p.m.

Sanfilippo is charged with 20 counts of aggravated harassment and one count of stalking. He is scheduled to be arraigned Saturday at First District Court in Central Islip.

Don't the reporters these day have something better to write about than two Dads getting into a yelling match. And then one guy accusing the other guy of "harassment". Come on you reporters have to have some real news to write about. This is High School newspaper crap. I remember when men where men not when one went to the principle and told on the other guy because of what he thought. Focus on real news or move onto a new career. I have a 15 min break and this doesn't cut it sorry reporter time for a job change.

I disagree. If the guy was a man, he would not have threatened the other guy's family. Granted I would have beat the crap out of him. What message does this send to the kids he was coaching? Pathetic.

Bill, compliments on the brilliant performance art! Commenting as if you were a crass, ignorant troll who doesn't understand the difference between a "beef" and criminal stalking!!! Your comparison of using harassing messages, following people around taking pictures of their child and wife and then sending them via phone (according to Newsday) and making threats against children to a simple argument is so eloquently stupid that if I didn't know you were commenting ironically I would have to get annoyed. Even using the common misspelling of "principal" as "principle". Now, Bill, we know the "principal" is your pal! Thanks, Bill. I needed some comic relief this morning. Looking forward to your next post!

I can't believe that the game has come to parents making it about them ... how can either child now deter all the harrassment and taunts that will come there way ... it is sad that Long Island has become a mecca of bad parents and coaches ...

Based on your comment, you're also what's wrong with youth sports. It's never about the kids, it's about overbearing, egotistical men and women that are simply trying to get an edge for their own kid. This is news....sad news, but still news.

Threatening to harm a child is criminal.

I for one find this newsworthy. The fact that the man bought an phone that was unable to be traced, and was charged with 20 counts might make this a little more then the run of the mill dispute. On the other hand this does paint a real quality picture of you.

Defending the indefensible, unbelievable, blame the victim? So you're saying that he should have confronted him, what are you hoping for a knock out, drag down fight at the game in front of the kids, maybe escalate that to a shooting, just idiocy! If that isn't bad enough you then have the nerve to blame the reporter,a job change for him?How about a complete attitude adjustment and brain change for you!

What a psycho. Although the 'coach' in me is wondering what could have transpired between the two coaches to bring it to this level of insanity? You don't just go all 'boil the rabbit in the pot' over a minor disagreement.

I am the coach of a 9U baseball team and a woman at that , i see some amazing behavior from grown men, the fact that this fight occured in May and he was still seeking ironically, vengeance in August is extemely frightening and he should not ever be allowed to coach again.

Hey "Bill". is your last name Sanfilippo by any chance? Either that or I assume you were just kidding. Nobody can be that stupid.
