Walt Whitman senior Casey File, junior Casey Martin and teacher Jaime Rogers participated in the 11th annual Stephen Siller Tunnel to Towers run Sunday in New York.
The 5k run goes from Brooklyn to the base of the new Freedom Tower, and commemorates firefighters lost on Sept.11, including Siller. On Sept. 11, 2001, he was off duty at Squad 1 in Brooklyn when he heard about the attack on the World Trade Center.
But he wasn't permitted to drive his truck through the Brooklyn-Battery Tunnel so he ran toward the site in full gear.
He was seen near the Towers that morning but was lost when the buildings collapsed.
Thousands turned out Sunday for the run.
