Tree That Closed Road Is Cut Down

Earlier attempt to remove tree led to shutdown for safety.

A tree that led part of Park Avenue closing down has been cut down.

Workers had attempted Wednesday to remove a large vine-covered tree on property facing Huntington Hospital. But after cutting at the base of the tree, which was near utility wires and close to the road, workers had to stop. Suffolk County police and hospital security officers shut down Park Avenue from near Maple Hill Road to Viewacre Drive while officials assessed the safety of the then-intact tree.

LIPA sent a crew to evaluate while town, hospital and other officials were on scene.
