Tree Hazard Closes Part of Park Avenue

Work to remove tree near hospital shut down.

Part of Park Avenue near Huntington Hospital was closed off Wednesday because a hazard caused by the attempted removal of a tree.

Ambulances and other vehicles entering or exiting the hospital were able to use Viewacre Drive.

Suffolk County police, hospital and town officials were on the scene where workers had tried to remove a tree next to Bethel AME Church at 291 Park Ave., Huntington.

Officials said the no permit had been granted initially for the work and, with utility wires and the street nearby, the removal was shut down.  As of 5 p.m., LIPA crews were on their way to assess the safety of the removal.

Huntington Hospital said it had contacted its tree service company to examine the tree.

Suffolk police and hospital security officers blocked Park Avenue traffic south of Maple Hill Road and from Viewacre Drive.
