Photos: Downed Tree Blocks Elwood Roadway

Homes blocked in as tree obstructs only road in and out of neighborhood Sunday afternoon.

The high winds that swept across Long Island Sunday caused a tree to fall across Willoughby Path in Elwood. About 50 homes were blocked in for a period of time because the road is the only way out. No one was injured.

Thanks, AG, makes sense and what I thought too. Would be productive to know which appropriate authorities are responsible for getting the job done at EOD. I would hope there is a line of communication between TOH Hwy and State DOH to contract, sub-contract whatever is needed to repair what is a major road thru our town

That should be State Assemblyman Raia's territory, and either State Senator Marcellino or State Senator Flanagan, depending upon which part of 25A you are talking about. Raia has an office in Northport Village, but I'm not sure about the others; you should contact Raia plus whichever senator is in your district. The Assembly and State Senate do so little for the people of Northport and Elwood, that repairs to state roads are the least those guys can arrange for us.

To Allie's Grandpa- I agree the highway department did a horrible job. But I do not think the Town Supervisor and Town Board are without blame. Pertone and Naughton have been fighting for years. The supervisor has cut funding and not allowed positions within the highway department to be filled. This has led to poor equipment, understaffing and poor moral. I think it is time for them all to grow up and do what is best for the people of Huntington and stop their fighting but I don't see that happening, therefore they must all go! We need them ALL voted out at this next election.

To be clear, this happened on Willoughby Path in Elwood. Not Elwood Road.
