SUV Driver in Rollover Arrested

Crash at Huntington intersection damages another car, fence.

A Huntington man was arrested after his near the intersection of Little Plains Road and Broadway-Greenlawn, police said Wednesday.

Suffolk County Police said the man, who they did not identify, was charged with two counts of criminal possession of a controlled substance 7th degree, driving while impaired by drugs and leaving the scene of an incident without reporting property damage.

The 46-year-old was traveling Tuesday in a 2004 Jeep in a parking lot when he crashed into another car, causing damage to another vehicle and then left without stopping. The accident occurred at approximately 8:15 a.m.

He was arrested a short time later on Broadway and Little Plains Road.

Witnesses and authorities on the scene said the accident occurred after the man had stopped at a service station to put air in his tires.

According to officials at the scene, the vehicle first rammed into a parked vehicle, then flew across the street, struck a sign post, then went through a fence. He rolled over five times before coming to a stop near a small pond.

The driver was taken to Huntington Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

The accident is under investigation.
