Suffolk's Finest Honor Police Week With Open House

Week-long event to feature live demonstrations and tours, public invited to attend.

The Suffolk County Police Department will open its doors to the public for an up-close look at police operations during this year’s Police Week.

The event  runs through Thursday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the John L. Barry Police Headquarters building, located at 30 Yaphank Ave. in Yaphank. Live demonstrations begin at 11:30 a.m. daily.

All members of the community are invited to gain a better understanding of the extensive training and readiness of officers, as well as a chance to see the state-of-the-art equipment used by those who protect and serve the county.

The tour includes a visit to the Police Museum and the 911 communications center.

Some aspects of Police Week include displays of police equipment and live demonstrations featuring an emergency vehicle operations course. Also featured will be police officers from emergency services, marine bureau, canine and aviation sections.
