Suffolk County Shows D-Day Gratitude

Suffolk County Police Department held a commemoration of the 70th anniversary of D-Day.

A ceremony to commemorate the 70th anniversary of D-Day drew visitors to Suffolk County Police Headquarters in Yaphank on Friday.  

D-Day veterans Ben Gebbia, Julian Olgela, Michael Settani, and Frank Agoglia were in attendance.

There to pay tribute and to thank them for their efforts was Suffolk County Executive Steve Bellone.

“This is the greatest generation that sent its young men to storm the beaches of Normandy to save the world from forces of tyranny and evil," he said. 

Bellone noted that their contributions "shaped the world and made this great country what it is today.”

Bellone’s uncle Tom Moldenhauer, who flew 35 missions over France and Germany during World War II as part of the 92nd Bombardment Group, also participated.
