The number of pedestrians killed on Suffolk County roadways rose 62 percent between 2009 and 2011, according to a study released by the Tri-State Transportation Campaign.
Route 110 was the second-deadliest road for pedestrians over the three year period, according to the study. Nine people were struck and killed on Route 110 from 2009-11.
The deadliest road for pedestrians in the county, according to the study, is Route 25 (Middle Country Road, Jericho Turnpike and Main Road), where 11 pedestrians were killed from 2009-11.
Overall, 110 pedestrians were killed on Suffolk County roads in those three years, according to the report. There were 47 such deaths in 2011, up from 34 in 2010 and 29 in 2009.
The Tri-State Transportation Campaign, a non-profit organization dedicated to reducing car dependency, used data from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s Fatality Analysis Reporting System to complete the study.
