Police: Dix Hills Teen Charged With Assaulting Mother, Brother Found Dead

Charles Okonkwo, 18, is charged with assault and police are investigating the death of his 15-year-old brother.

A Dix Hills teen is charged with assault after his mother was found unconscious with severe head injuries at their home Saturday evening and police are investigating the death of the teen's 15-year-old brother. 

According to police, Second Precinct officers responded to 3 Norman Court after Charles Okonkwo, 62, called to report that he had just returned home from a hospital stay and discovered his son, Bradley Okonkwo, 15, dead and his wife, Chinwe Okonkwo, 52, unconscious. 

The couple’s other son, Charles Okonkwo, 18, appeared to have fled the scene in a green 2002 BMW X5, police said.

Bradley Okonkwo was pronounced dead at the scene. Chinwe Okonkwo was airlifted to Stony Brook University Hospital where she is listed in serious condition.

Police located Charles Okonkwo near his vehicle a short distance from the home at about 6:10 p.m. He was transported to police headquarters in Yaphank, where he was charged with second degree assault.

Bradley Okonkwo’s cause of death could not be determined at the scene, police said, and an autopsy will be conducted by the Office of the Suffolk County Medical Examiner.

The investigation is continuing and police are asking anyone with information about the case to call the Homicide Squad at 631-852-6392.
