Pedestrian Killed on New York Avenue

Huntington Station woman killed while crossing street near intersection of W. 9th Street.

A motor vehicle crash killed a pedestrian in Huntington Station early Sunday.

Mercedes Pulido, 93, was attempting to cross New York Avenue near West 9th Street when she was struck by a 1999 Ford Taurus that was heading southbound on New York Avenue at 6:40 a.m., according to police. The victim was crossing from the west side of the street to the east side when the collision occurred.

Pulido, of Huntington Station, was transported to Huntington Hospital, where she was later pronounced dead. The driver of the Taurus, Bernadette Simon, 68, of Huntington Station, was not injured in the crash, according to police.

The vehicle was impounded for a safety check and the investigation is continuing.
