UPDATE: Woman, 76, Hit by Car in Parking Lot in Serious Condition

Suffolk police are investigating an incident that took place Tuesday afternoon that left a 76-year-old woman in serious condition at the Walt Whitman Mall parking lot in South Huntington.

Police said Wednesday afternoon that Helen Rivera, a Holbrook resident, was hit by a brown 2014 Honda CRV driven by Robert Berger, 83, of Jericho, at about 1:30 p.m.

Police said it appears that Rivera was holding a handicapped parking spot, but it is not confirmed if she was arguing with Berger prior to the crash, police said Wednesday evening.
