Pair Arrested in Jewelry Store Thefts

Suffolk police say couple stole from several stores, including Tourneau.

Suffolk County Police arrested a couple in Deer Park Wednesday and charged them with multiple jewelry store thefts in the area.

While conducting a routine traffic stop at the corner of Bay Shore Road and Crown Street in Deer Park around 4:45 p.m., an officer arrested the driver of the vehicle, Kristie Laird, and her passenger, Daniel Cimolonski, for active warrants and drug possession charges.

Further investigation by First Squad detectives revealed that Cimolonski, of South Setauket, was responsible for four thefts at jewelry stores in various locations throughout Suffolk County, police said.

Laird, of Deer Park, was charged as an accomplice in one of the cases, police said.

Cimolonski, 32, is charged with four counts of third degree grand larceny, one count of fourth degree grand larceny, criminal possession of a controlled substance and resisting arrest. Laird, 45, is charged with third degree grand larceny and criminal possession of a controlled substance.

The grand larceny charges stem from thefts at Tourneau at Walt Whitman Shops in Huntington Station, Zales Jewelers in Deer Park's Tanger Outlets, Golden Island Jewelry in Commack and Diamond Exchange Jeweler in Medford.

Cimolonski is also charged with fourth degree grand larceny for stealing money from a man at a Bay Shore Burger King Wednesday, police said.

Police believe that the couple may have committed similar crimes in Nassau County. The Nassau County Police Robbery Squad was notified and is investigating the possibility of additional charges in its jurisdiction.

Cimolonski and Laird will be arraigned at First District Court in Central Islip at a later date.
