Man Accused of Stabbing Inside NorthSport

Argument during soccer play led to assault at Northport athletic facility, say police.

Miguel Velasquez, 20, of Northport was arrested late Wednesday night and charged with second degree assault with intent to injure after he allegedly stabbed a man inside NorthSport Athletic Facility following a dispute.

Northport Police responded to NorthSport for a report of a fight with a stabbing around 11:18 p.m. In an interview with police, the victim said that he was playing soccer and his shift was over so he went to the recreational area to get a drink where he noticed Velasquez arguing with his friend.

He went over and asked what was going on and Velasquez focused his anger on him, allegedly stating, "you guys don't want me here, let's go outside."

The victim refused, saying his shift for soccer was about to start again. Velasquez then allegedly pulled a knife from a makeshift newspaper sheath and lunged at him, stabbing him in the lower left abdomen, causing a small laceration and substantial pain.

Velasquez reportedly ran off on foot from the facility. Sgt. Michael Cook and Officer Giganti then brought the victim to Velasquez' home address where a positive identification was made.

Velasquez was arrested, transported to headquarters, processed and held pending arraignment. A Spanish interpreter was requested and Officer Nieves responded and assisted with a supporting deposition of the victim because of a language barrier.

How do you know the tattoo on his neck is a gang tattoo? You can hardly see it.

James the Graffiti is to mark there territory and the tattoos are for other gang members to know there affiliated with the gang not for the common person to know they are a member of the gang. The tattoos rarely match the graffiti tags.

Scary stuff I am reading here. Maybe it’s time for the town to crack down on all the illegal apartments. I noticed a home/store on the south side of 25A, west of Ace Hardware that must have over ten people living in the second & third floor. The folks living in this building don’t look too nice. You see them walking from the beverage store with six packs & cases of beer all the time.
