Man Accused of DWI With Son in Car

Police say Northport driver fled after hitting 2 other vehicles.

Suffolk County Police arrested a Northport man Friday on charges of driving while intoxicated after they said he crashed his car into two others in Huntington and fled the scene. His 14-year-old stepson was in the vehicle.

Police gave this account: John Nullmeyer was driving a 2009 Toyota Camry north in a southbound only portion of Nassau Road near the intersection of Main Street in Huntington about when he struck a 2006 Mazda. Nullmeyer fled the crash and then struck a westbound 1998 Ford on Main Street.

After turning the vehicle around, Nullmeyer fled east on Main Street. Drivers of the two struck vehicles flagged down Second Precinct patrol officers who arrested Nullmeyer at the intersection of Main Street and Spring Road. There were no injuries in either of the crashes.

Second Squad detectives charged Nullmeyer, 43, of 82 Main St., Northport, with two counts of leaving the scene of an accident, aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle, endangering the welfare of a child, and aggravated driving while intoxicated with a child in the car, which is a felony under Leandra’s Law.

Nullmeyer is scheduled for arraignment at First District Court in Central Islip Saturday morning.
