Lloyd Harbor Code Red System Now Live
Residents can sign up through Suffolk County's website to receive emergency notifications.
Code Red, the village of Lloyd Harbor's emergency alert system run by Suffolk County, is now live, ready to alert residents in the event of a emergency. The system, by the village's Board of Trustees, in February, notifies residents via phone, text message, and email in the event of an emergency.
According to Lloyd Harbor Police Sergeant Gregory Muller, the Board of Trustees came to the police with the idea last year to implement a system for the village. After researching different options, the Code Red system was approved earlier this year. The system is run by Suffolk County, which also pays for it, and the county's Office of Emergency Management helped the police set it up.
Muller stressed residents will only be notified in a "true emergency," such as if a downed tree blocks a major road or the causeway floods. "This system will be good-- we'll be able to get the information out to everyone," said Muller, adding reception in the village from both the trustees and residents has been very good, with over 700 people signing up already in Lloyd Harbor and Cold Spring Harbor.
