Huntington Station Man Arrested in Nassau Stop

Nassau police say passenger tried to drive car away after driver was arrested.

A Huntington Station man was arrested early Friday morning after police said he climbed into the driver's seat of a stopped car and tried to drive away.

Nassau highway patrol stopped the car Harris Morales, 38, was riding in on the Long Island Expressway near Old Westbury and arrested the driver, Phillip Marsh, 31, of Wyandanch on charges of DWI. As officers took Marsh into custody, Morales got into the driver's seat and attempted to drive away, police said. A Highway Patrol Bureau police officer then pulled his vehicle in front of the Nissan, preventing it from leaving. Morales exhibited signs of intoxication and was taken into custody. The vehicle was impounded and an open container of alcohol was found on the passenger side floor.

Marsh was charged with two counts of driving while intoxicated, uninspected motor vehicle, open alcohol container in vehicle, failure to stay in single lane and speeding.

Morales was charged with two counts of driving while intoxicated, aggravated driving while intoxicated and open alcohol container in vehicle.
