Huntington Man Killed in Car Crash

Car clips another on Route 110 in Melville.

 A Huntington man was killed in a Melville car crash early Saturday morning, Suffolk County police said.

Killed was Christopher Klan, 44.

Police gave this account: Kenneth Swany was driving north on Route 110 near Snyder Street in Melville at 3:36 a.m. when he was passed in the right lane by a 2006 Chevrolet, driven by Klan.

Police said the Chevrolet struck Swany’s vehicle in the front. Both vehicles spun out of control, overturned, and the Chevrolet ended in the southbound lane of traffic.

 Klan, 44,  was pronounced dead at the scene by a physician assistant from the Office of the Suffolk County Medical Examiner.

Swany, 21, of  Dix Hills, and his 21-year-old female passenger were treated at  Huntington Hospital for minor injuries and released.

Both vehicles were impounded for safety checks and the investigation is continuing. Detectives are asking anyone who may have witnessed the crash to contact the Second Squad at 631-854-8239.
