Huntington Crash Kills Massapequa Man

4 passengers injured when car strikes tree.

A Massapequa man was killed in a crash on Sweet Hollow Road in Huntington early Saturday morning.

Suffolk County police said that Zachary Bernstein, 23, was driving a 2004 Volkswagen Jetta south on Sweet Hollow Road in Huntington at 3:35 a.m. when he lost control of the vehicle and struck a tree. Bernstein was pronounced dead at the scene by a physician assistant from the Office of the Suffolk County Medical Examiner.

Three passengers -- Cliff Scudlo, 25, Rory O’Rourke, 25, and William End, 22,  all of Amityville -- were taken to by Huntington Community Rescue for treatment. A fourth passenger, Frank Shea, 22, of West Babylon, was taken by  Suffolk County Police helicopter to Stony Brook University Medical Center for treatment of serious injuries.

The vehicle was impounded for a safety check and the investigation is continuing.
