Home Invasion Suspect in County Jail

Man faces parole warrant and grand jury action.

The man accused of invading a home earlier this week and  then fleeing the hospital is in Suffolk County Jail in Riverhead, awaiting grand jury action on his case.

Daryl Miller, 29, was arrested early Monday morning after he fled Huntington Hospital but was recaptured about two hours later in Halesite.

Lt. Tom O'Heir, a second squad detective in the Suffolk 2nd Precinct, said Miller, who has numerous charges including criminal use of a firearm, assault and burglary pending, also faces a warrant for a parole violation.

Miller was one of two armed men who broke into a 7th Avenue North home, police said, where three young men were playing videogames. The three residents resisted, wrestled the gun away from one and held onto him. The second man escaped.

O'Heir said Miller had been taken to the hospital after being taken there for treatment of injuries he received while fighting with the occupants. Miller escaped by breaking the bed he was handcuffed to, O'Heir said.

Helicopters using search lights combed the hospital neighborhood until Miller was found hiding in a backyard.

The same home was hit by a similar attack two years ago.
