Commack

A safe containing jewelry was stolen from a basement apartment in Commack last week, police said.

According to Suffolk County police, an unknown individual entered a home on Larkfield Road by prying open the front door at approximately 5:30 p.m. on September 24.

Once inside, the intruder made their way to the basement apartment and removed a safe that police say contained two bracelets.

The residents were not home at the time of the incident.

Hauppauge

Albert Smith Jr., 38, of Hauppauge, was arrested in Islandia Sept. 21 on charges of criminal trespassing. Police said they were called to Blydenburgh Road after complaints of noises being heard outside. Police arrived on the scene and were unable to locate anyone. Cops brought canines in and located Smith hiding on the property, according to reports. Police said Smith claimed he was looking for metal scraps. Smith was arrested at 12:37 p.m.

A Hauppauge man and native of Trinidad and Tobago was one of nearly 3,000 illegal immigrants arrested this past week and will face deportation after a nationwide immigration crackdown.

Ian Kirt Kuar, 52, was picked up as part of a seven-day 'cross check' organized by the U.S. Immigrations and Customs Enforcement, the investigative federal agency in charge of border patrol, customs, and immigration.

All 2,901 individuals arrested had prior criminal convictions. More than 1,600 of them had previously been convicted of a felony charge such as manslaughter, attempted murder, or kidnapping.

Nearly 700 had been ordered to leave the country before, and 386 of the arrested individuals had been removed from the United States in the past.

Kirt Kuar, according to federal officials, was convicted in 1975 of second-degree manslaughter and nearly 20 years later for fifth-degree criminal sale of a controlled substance.

Massapequa

A Nassau County social worker faces drug charges after she was arrested on drug charges on the Southern State Parkway near North Massapequa last week, state police said.

A trooper stopped a gray Nissan driven by Renee Pearson, 32, of Amityville, who was driving west on the parkway, because she was allegedly speeding.

When he approached the car he smelled marijuana, police said. 

Police found several bags of pot and 12 green tablets which officers believed to be ecstacy.

Pearson was charged with criminal possession of a controlled substance, marijuana possession and traffic violations.

Northport

Marie McConnell from Northport was arrested for petty larceny in East Northport on Sept. 29.

Sarah Colucci from East Northport was arrested for petty larceny in Commack on Sept. 29.

Alyssa Deguido from Northport was arrested for acting in a manner to injure a child under 17 in Northport on Sept. 28.

James Macht from Mesquite was arrested for peddling and soliciting in Fort Salonga on Sept. 27.

Robert Mcnamara from Holtsville was arrested in East Northport for second degree criminal contempt, disobeying the court, on Sept. 25.

Jason Blonder from East Northport was arrested for unlawful possession of marijuana in East Northport on Sept. 25.

Rhiannon Lobasso from Huntington Station was arrested for resisting arrest in East Northport on Sept. 24.

Robert Gleiberman from Northport was arrested for third degree menacing in Northport on Sept. 24.

Lethicia Gabriel from East Northport was arrested for third degree grand larceny in Huntington on Sept. 21.
